Student divers often ask which camera they should buy for underwater use.  The answer often starts with a few questions:  What camera do you use now?  Have you checked availability of waterproof housing for it?  Do you intend to take “serious” macro and wide angle shots or casual snap shots of your buddy?  How much is your budget?

You just had a great dive and your camera memory card is full of photos and videos, the next dive is coming up and you are eager to take more shots of critters.  To free your card you open your camera housing to offload your JPG or RAW files to your laptop, if you remembered to bring your cable or card reader.  Alternately, you may have another mem card to use. Hopefully all these doesn't take too much time because your dive buddy is excited to get back in the water.

Now the dilemma.  Do you just slot-in the camera into the housing and close the lid?  Or do you clean the o-ring seal again to minimize the chance of debris stuck between the waterproof gasket and the case body which may cause it to flood?  Do you have time?  Do you have the will to do this chore?  Wouldn't you rather be taking images?
