The 25th International Coastal Cleanup will be held on the 17th of September 2011 starting at 9:00am at our venue sponsor Sea's Spring Resort in Mainit (Anilao), Mabini Batangas. Volunteer cleanup divers and non divers are invited to join. A cocktail party will be held after the day's festivities.

Seacam announced the Prelude Series of their underwater dslr housings.  Fitment for the recently released Canon 60D and Nikon D7000 would be initially available.  The Seacam units are well regarded for the materials, construction, ergonomics and modularity.  I specially like the option to swap marine viewfinders.  The Prelude would be 40% cheaper than full function housings (all camera buttons press-able) for bodies like D3 and 1Ds, the trade off is reduced buttons on the waterproof case.  If you do not make a lot of camera setting changes while photography diving then this could be your ticket into the world of premium quality Seacam systems.

Yahoo!!!  Saw a brick red Rhinopias eschmeyeri (common names are paddle-flap rhinopias or Eschmeyer's scorpionfish) in Anilao.  It has been several years since I last saw a Rhinopias.  The first species I had seen was the Frondosa or weedy scorpionfish.  Now I just hope to find an Aphanes or Merlet's lacey scorpionfish.  Read my older Rhinopias post :  http://dyv.us/2009/12/04/rhinopias-tragedy#more

Depth rated to 300ft/90m, the Aquatica AN-5 housing has an anodised shell, powder coated to a smooth finish that will resist years of extensive use, the company says. All controls are double sealed and every shaft and push button has been manufactured to a mirror smooth. A quick access lever serves to bring the internal flash up and down for easy switching between strobe and ambient light photography.

Lybia (common names include boxer crabs, boxing crabs and, pom-pom crabs) is a genus of small crabs, including Lybia tesselata and Lybia edmondsoni. They are notable for their mutualism with sea anemones which grow on their claws for defense. In return, the anemones find new places to eat and mate. Boxer crabs use at least three different species of anemones, including Bundeopsis sp. and Triactis producta. The bonding with the anemone is not required for survival, however, and boxer crabs have frequently been known to live without them, sometimes substituting other organisms such as sponges and
